About me

Photo of Althea Draper, Translator & Interpreter French & Spanish

Hi, I'm Althea Draper and I'm a translator and interpreter of both French and Spanish into English.

I was born and grew up in Scotland where I learned to speak both English and Scots. From an early age I started learning French with the help of my parents, my 'Les Imageries' books, and lessons from my French neighbour.

At school I studied French and Spanish whilst taking evening classes at the University of St Andrews to learn German, before studying it to Higher level. This led to me being awarded a Distinction in the SQA Languages Baccalaureate which set me on the path to higher education at Heriot Watt University where I studied interpreting and translating French and Spanish.

Education

I have a first class MA (Hons) in Languages (Interpreting and Translating (French and Spanish) from Heriot Watt University in Scotland.
My studies took me to UCO Angers in Maine-et-Loire in France and the University of Granada in Spain.

Languages

I was born and raised in Scotland and have lived, studied and holidayed in both France and Spain. In addition to consolidating my French and Spanish, I am continuing to build on the Mandarin Chinese which I also studied at University.

Continuing Professional Development

In addition to improving my languages, I continue to develop my skills as a translator and in specialist fields. Examples of recent CPD undertaken include anatomy, chemical industry standards, and computer aided translation tools.
